MIT Professor warns that Facebook and Twitter makes us less human.

An MIT Professor has warned of the danger of social-networking. They claim that the likes of Facebook and Twitter are not good for society and make us "less human."

Sherry Turkle is the author of a new book, 'Alone Together', which brands the likes of Facebook and Twitter a "modern form of madness."

The book argues that whilst Social networking sites give us the impression that we're able to communicate more easily with our friends and family we are in fact we're more isolated than ever, sat at our keyboards or smartphones.

Turkle is a Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology and has written numerous books and articles on people and their relationships with technology and computers.

'Alone Together' is due to be published on February 3rd. The blurb for the book notes: "Consider Facebook - it's human contact, only easier to engage with and easier to avoid. Developing technology promises closeness. Sometimes it delivers, but much of our modern life leaves us less connected with people and more connected to simulations of them."

What do you think?  Is Facebook good or evil?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
