Apple has crossed yet another milestone. It’s App Store has hit the 10 billion download mark. The achievement not only underlines the popularity of iOS devices, but also shows the wide acceptance of “App” model. Sure, now Apple must be looking to replicate the same success with its Mac App Store. Apple had recently launched its Mac App Store, which has already seen 1 million downloads on the very first day of its launch. There may have been detractors like Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, who criticized the App Store model for stifling openness. But since the imitation is the best form of flattery, the fact that companies such Google and RIM opened their own App Store says a lot about Apple's innovation.
Anyways, the company had announced $10,000 iTunes certificate for its 10 billionth downloader and the prize has been won by Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, UK. Gail had downloaded Paper Glider for winning cool $10,000. Apple also said that the last year alone saw seven billion downloads. Apple Vice President Philip Schiller also did not let go the opportunity to pass a jibe on its competitors, saying, "While others try to copy the App Store, it continues to offer developers and customers the most innovative experience on the planet."
