Kevin Rose Says No To iPad Retina Display

The debate over whether the iPad 2 will have a Retina display has hotted up today as Kevin Rose, Digg Founder, has now poured cold water over the prospect of an increased resolution for yet unannounced iPad 2.

Depending on who you believe, the iPad 2 will come with a substantially better resolution screen – both Digitimes and Engadget have run stories to this effect.

On the other hand, Kevin Rose’s sources originally agreed with the possibility of a better screen, but has now provided additional insight  via SMS saying the iPad 2 will have "no change in resolution". The news from Kevin Rose today corroborates a similar claim made by Daring Fireball's John Gruber who says an iPad with a Retina display is "too good to be true".

At the moment we have no idea who’s telling the truth, there’s certainly evidence to support both claims. We think that the display will be better, an iPad 2S just wouldn’t cut it – we feel it need to be substantially better that the original.

Do you think the Apple iPad 2 will feature a Retina display?  As ever let us know below.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
