Spotify's long battle trying to get their amazing music streaming service to America has just taken a step closer to becoming a reality this lunch time.
It what is a major scalp for the start-up music service they have apparently just signed a deal with Sony Music for US distribution.
This is according to Peter Kafka from the Wall Street Journal. Kafka says his sources told him that Spotify US will look like the UK service if all the deals follow the template offered by the Sony.
However they still have some way to go, and it's far from guaranteed - the whole Spotify model is based around the idea that the can get the service up and running in the US market.
Record labels seem to holding out and many are worried about it further hurting the dying CD market and more importantly angering Apple by messing with iTunes.
But now they have one of the major players on board we would expect the rest of the majors to follow suit shortly.
Why does Spotify US matter to UK users? Spotify needs more cash to keep going and the US service would bring that. Let's all cross out fingers that the deals get done"¦
