The Android 2.3 Gingerbread has been on the cards for a while now for the Nexus One, however it would now seem that we could be getting closer to the release date.
ComputerWorld reported that Google had spoken to them recently about the Android hitting the Nexus One very soon and that it is almost finished, which does suggest that all you Nexus One owners will be getting roll out very soon, maybe in the next few weeks.
It was tweeted back last month that we should expect an OTA update in the coming weeks but that was exactly a month ago so all I can say on behalf of you Nexus One owners is hurry up soon Google!

When they said in the coming weeks, I was hoping for a early christmas present. As in early nexus 1 adopter I’m happy to have my phone for a year now, and I’ve always been happy that the “chosen phone” is the first to get the latest and greatest updates.
Here is hoping that it continues we are not forgotten about.
Hurry Up! I bought the N1 thinking it would always get the latest updates ASAP. Now these Samsung owners are all laughing at us when we were the first to take the leap of faith and go Google phone 100%.
Please google please, hurry up and release gingerbread for the n1! Its been delayed long enough! Initial reports had it earmarked for October, then November, then December, then it was going to be ‘a few weeks’! People are going too get fed up waiting and go to an unofficial custom gingerbread rom, rather than wait for the official release!
I agree Google needs to amp up the speed on that release! I look forward to playing with an official 2.3 release.
I’m, starting to think this has a lot to do with Samsung. The Nexus S is pretty much A Galaxy S, yet most Galaxy S phones are still on 2.1. Along with a Nexus One I also have a Vibrant, that does not even have Froyo yet, however the new “4G” version will have Froyo. It really seems Samsung is putting the pressure on to keep older phones from getting upgraded so people will buy new phones. Anyway I switched from the IPhone awhile back, and I think it is time to go back. At least when an update comes out you can get it when it is out. I mean who really cares about Android updates anymore, no one can get them until the next 2 versions are already released.
I don’t even want Gingerbread. All of the Nexus S units are complete garbage. Google doesn’t even know if it’s a hardware or software issue. How the hell can they not know that? No wonder Gingerbread is delayed. I don’t want to be Google’s guinea pig anymore.
I have the Nexus One, and I’ve been searching Google everyday for any update to when I’ll get Gingerbread.
It would be nice to get official updates on progress from Google.

Been itching to upgrade my N1 lately, but there just aren’t any phone out that justify it to me. I’m hoping that 2.3 will be enough to make this phone fell fresh again. Im not used to being second in line for updates… sucks
i too am a proud N1 owner. ordered mine the first day it went live last january… but i too got sick of waiting. i stumbled on this article. followed it exactly and poof. i have a sick new N1 with gingerbread and a highly customizable phone!

i can’t recommend this enough!
Can’t wait until it comes out,I have the N1 and I really want more system memory, I’ve heard it removes some limitations for apps.
I don’t accept that there is any technical reason for the delay: Google have simply decided to give Samsung a good long clear run with the Nexus S the only ‘pure’ gingerbread phone.
As for those of us who shelled out good money for a Nexus One less than a year ago in the expectation of getting the latest soon after it was available? As far as Google is concerned we can just bend over and feel privileged to get shafted by the awesome ‘not evil’ Google.
Google is demonstrating the kind of honesty with it’s customers we expect from Apple, and the kind of ethics we expect from Microsoft.
Yep the wait has been painful. Especially for features like click to call from the Android browser for phone numbers and in apps like gmail. The lack of these features are driving me nuts. Especially having come across from iPhone. Google it’s ok to delay system updates, but not when you made a commitment to Nexus one users that they would get updates first. This was the key selling point and differentiator for the nexus one. I see this as a broken promise.
I have been waiting for this update since the nexus s was announced. I do not understand why the update was not ready for the nexus one when the nexus s was releaced, wasn’t that the point of google branded phones. Updates available as soon as the software was finished regaurdless of the phone.
They are deceiving us all the time
