HP to unleash WebOS running tablet device in february

Whether you like it or not tablets are here to stay and as much as it may annoy some people it seems that they are the future of  computing and will do more and more damage to PC and laptop sales as time goes on.

As Apple fans eagerly await the second instalment if the ground-breaking iPad competitors are still searching for a way to 'kill' the first one.

Apple will probably always be the first company that comes into your head when you think tablet and their iPad will probably always be king (if not for any other reason, then simply because it came first.)

But if anyone stands a chance of delivering a fatal blow to Steve Jobs new digital pet it's
Hewlett-Packard.

One of the world’s largest manufacturers of personal computers, plans to unveil its first PCs in slate form-factor with webOS operating system in early February this year.

The company said-

“We are totally focused on the tablet market, totally focused on enabling that with webOS, which we bought over the summer from Palm. We believe that the tablet is one piece of that eco-system, one piece of the always connected experience that we are going to create."

So what makes WebOS such an important tool for HP?

“WebOS was the strategic reason we acquired Palm over the summer. The webOS is the first truly Web-based operating system that is differentiated from anything that is on the market today. It is very feature-rich with products like Synergy that allow you to access multiple accounts simultaneously: your Google account, your Facebook account, your Twitter account, your CNBC Universal account. WebOS is the only true mobile multi-tasking operating system: we can have twenty different applications working simultaneously. We think about how that enables everything from smartphone to tablets to PCs to other large-screen devices.”

That all sounds very promising on paper but will consumers be persuaded to move away from Apple or Android in favour of an underdog OS?

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
