Speculations about the new iPad are now reaching a new level. The latest news or rumor about the upcoming tablet is about its resolution. If we pay some attention to the new changes made to Apple's iBook App, then it gives us an indication that the company is thinking about increasing the resolution of its display. However, its pixels per inch or ppi density is still likely to be less than iPhone 4's retina display. Retina display, by definition, has higher resolution that can normally be processed by a human eye and therefore it makes individual pixels almost impossible to be distinguished.
Current iPad has ppi density of 132 with a resolution of 1024×768 and now looks like Cupertino company is planning to give it a retina display makeover. Current retina display on iPhone 4 has ppi of 326, but striving to have this kind of pixel density on a 9.7 inch screen will require very high resolution. So, instead of increasing ppi, Apple may simply increase the resolution at a relatively lower ppi. So, keep watching this space to see if Apple is actually going to go ahead with its plans for quadrupling iPad's resolution.
