iPhone 5 and iPad 2 to come with thinner body?

Where are phones going? They used to be huge, then slim was all the rage and then features took over style somewhat and now we are all carrying massive hunks of plastic in our pocket again but it's okay now because now they can do literally anything.

Apple though are going for the sex appeal in their latest smartphone. Word is that the iPhone 5 could arrive as a substantially thinner package thanks to new, smaller conductive nodes to slip beneath its multi-touch screen.

A patent application that just popped out of the US Patent and Trademark Office with Apple's name on it shows a new method for creating a thinner capacitive touchscreen (which could also make an appearance on the ipad 2.)

Not only giving us a thinner iPhone and iPad the improved capacitive tech could also offer major power savings to boost the battery life (excellent!)

The proposals are credited to two of Apple's most senior engineers, Steve Hotelling and Steve Zadesky. They were first filed by Apple in July of 2009.

So is thin important to you when it comes to your smartphone?

One thing to bear in mind is how much more fragile this could make an already fragile handset.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
