Two of the biggest names in music, Spotify and Shazam have teamed up to create dual app for those music lovers out there.
A further sign of Spotify's increasing growth, the app allows Shazamers who are hunting down that track they can hear banging in the club will now be greeted by a "Play in Spotify" option once music is discovered.
I don't know why you would want to play a song on Spotify that is playing where you are, but I guess you can tag the track for later and stream it to your heart's content.
It's an interesting move by the two companies and highlights one of the vogues of this year so far; music identification and streaming merging. (We've already seen a very similar service from Pure and it's likely that we will see more apps like this shazify app in the coming weeks and months especially with the explosion in cloud based apps and services. we’ve been seeing.)
The new Spotify feature will be fully integrated in Shazam’s free app in the very near future and is alreadyavailable on the premium apps on Android and iOS wherever Spotify is available (e.g. UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Spain and the Netherlands and not the U.S.)
Obviously a premium Spotify account is needed to stream the music but if you already have Spotify premium it's a great new way to expand your music collection and if you don't, it's yet another reason to fork out £9.99 a month if Roberta from Spotify's irritating voice wasn't enough to persuade you to go premium.
