Aren't you just sick of things that are supposedly 'portable' but then it turns out they have the battery life of a watch-battery powering a nuclear reactor? I know I am. The oldies see your latest smartphone that can play music, check the temperature, browse the internet and save the world all at the same time and they say 'Oh, doesn't all that run down the battery?' you want to say 'No!' but you know it does.
Rant aside. We have a new portability pooper on the way in the form of the 3Ds. The hotly anticipated games machine is said to only be able to offer us a mere 3 to 8 hours charge. Yes it's a bit of a vague number I'll give you that but if it's at the bottom end of the scale (which I expect it will be) then it's certainly not going to last on the journey to a Cornish holiday cottage.
What makes the whole thing worse is the fact that the original Nintendo DS could get up to 14 hours on a single charge and the DS Lite gave an even better 19 hour max life.
But how will this affect sales? Not much I don't think. We'll just be seeing a lot of charger accessories and children having paddies when 3D Mario fades to black
