Samsung's answer to Apple's MacBook Air, the Samsung ZX310 laptop which was revealed at CES last week has had its price revealed, showing what some might see as a disappointing price tag which makes it cost $300 more than the laptop it's challenging.
The ZX310 has been revealed to have a $1599 price tag (approximately £1,031), and will find its way onto shelves in the US in February ready to take on the device its clearly influenced by at $300 more. The 128GB, 13-inch MacBook Air, which comes in at $1299 (approximately £837) in the US is sold in the UK for £1122. If Samsung stick to exact exchange rates for the UK (where the price is yet to be revealed), they may give better competition between the two devices. I think I might remain a little pessimistic on this ideal situation though.
With the rather large price difference, it's unfortunate that Samsung don't really offer anything more than the MacBook Air does, with a 13-inch screen, a 1.4GHz core i5 processor, 4GB of DDR RAM, and an onboard SSD which can either be kept at 128GB, or increased to 256GB.
People's decision in getting the device may simply come down to operating system preference, the ZX310 will be running Microsoft's most recent OS Windows 7, whereas the MacBook Air naturally sticks with Apple's OS. Could this overpricing be a costly mistake by Samsung for competing in the laptop market or could we be seeing a strong piece of tech which can compete with Apple? I guess the next few months will tell us.

Actually the i5 processor is much faster than the one from the Air since it can increase its speed to 2.3 GHz.
And isn’t that price you mentioned for the Air with 2 GB ram and 1.86 GHz processor?
With the samsung you have updated tech, with the Air you have an apple on the lid …
My opinion is that people should go for the Air if they use OSX, otherwise the samsung is better.
