A story has been doing the rounds this morning that Facebook is to close down, now we know you’re not stupid, but it would seem that some gullible people have been circulating a rumour that Mark Zuckerberg was going to shut Facebook down because he wants to lead a normal life.

According to reports across Facebook and Twitter, Zuckerberg wanted to close Facebook so he can lead a “normal life”, but the real source seems to have come from a satirical story the was published by Weekly World News which satirised a story suggesting that he wanted to shut down the social network. Honestly, this should have been left for April 1st.

They’ve even got a date for when the social network would stop operating, March 15th which is the same day that Yahoo video is to shut-down.

Zuckerberg apparently said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

"I personally don't think it's a big deal," he said in a private phone interview. "And to be honest, I think it's for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That's always a good thing."

Some irrate Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.

"What am I going to do without Facebook?" said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. "My life revolves around it. I'm on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?"

We recently read on the back of of a toilet door that the world is going to end next week on Tuesday at 3pm, we must remember to circulate this on twitter and make a Facebook group. Because once you’ve done that it becomes true. Another victory for imagination over common sense.

Facebook is here to stay and they even tweeted about the story: "We didn't get the memo about shutting down, so we'll keep working away. We aren't going anywhere; we're just getting started." Phew"¦

The moral of the story? Don’t always believe what you read, especially ridiculous stories suggesting that a multi-billion pound company was going to shut up shop because Mr Zuckerberg doesn’t like the life of a billion-aire. Honestly, next we’ll be hearing that Microsoft is shutting because they don’t like the weather in Seattle.
