Kinect turned out to be a superstar for Microsoft and now the Redmond-based company is looking to monetize it in new ways. The
company CEO Steve Ballmer has confirmed that eventually Kinect will be turned PC-compatible. In an interview with BBC, Microsoft head honcho said, "We’ll support that in a formal way, in the right time.” According to Balmer, Microsoft is trying to move beyond traditional gaming into social arena and is trying to integrate gaming, movies, TV and music.
This possibility was earlier alluded to by Microsoft Kinect expert Kudo Tsunoda. Back in August, last year, he had hinted that Microsoft would be taking Kinect beyond the usual gaming paradigm and will integrate it with a variety of devices such as PCs and phones. Seems like, Tsunoda knew a lot about the possibilities but chose to provide only tangential information.
In the meantime, Steve Ballmer also took time to pass jibes at Apple. According to him, "Apple's business is Apple's business." However, he insisted that the most diverse and largest app eco-system is still PC's domain.
