Motorola have officially unveiled their first tablet device – the Motorola XOOM - and it's looking to be one to look out for this year. Not only is the XOOM sporting a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a 1280 x 800p HD resolution, but the tablet will be running Google's first OS which is catered specifically for tablets; Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
The Motorola XOOM which has been teased for a while as a Honeycomb device, and is also set to feature a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor which runs the touchscreen which boasts being able to handle 16:9 cinema-spec video content.
The tablet seems to directly take on Apple's iPad, bringing up what it lacks with the device featuring; two cameras (a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video recording on the other side), and one of the most widely criticised missing features from the iPad - full Adobe Flash Player 10.1 compatibility.
Other specs included on the Motorola XOOM include; 32GB of built-in storage (which can be increased using the SD card slot), built in WiFi and 3G (which can be upgraded to 4G). The tablet is expected to be available in Q1 2011 in the US, although no pricing is announced as of yet. UK release dates and pricing are also unfortunately yet to be announced. Could this be one of the best tablets of the year or will we be seeing the iPad 2 overshadow the Motorola device? I guess the next few months will show us.
