CityVille on its way to 100 million monthly active users

18 November 2010 I said "CityVille, you'll be sick to death of hearing it this time next year."

And it would seem that I am right…except the latest Facebook game is ten months ahead of schedule as it's already becoming ubiquitous.

Zynga launched CityVille on Facebook just over a month ago, and according to the application page there are already over 84,222,766 users actively playing the game.

This is compared to the previous Facebook game champion (also from Zynga) Farmville which currently has 58 million The game attracted nearly 2 million new players on Monday alone, and almost 22 million over the past 7 days.

With Facebook having been recently valued at £32.2bn this is just another example of how something as simple as a construction sim game can attract millions of people (and pounds.)
