Watch out Android users. What is being described as a "new and very sophisticated Trojan" is hitting Android devices in China and thus possibly endangering users worldwide.
The Trojan which has been dubbed ‘Geinimi’ can harvest large amounts of personal data on a user's phone and send it to remote servers.
According to 'Lookout Mobile Security' it is ‘the most sophisticated Android malware seen to date’.
Geinimi is turning up in repackaged versions of legitimate applications, (mainly games) such as- Monkey Jump 2, President vs. Aliens, City Defense and Baseball Superstars 2010 from third-party Chinese Android app markets. There's said to be no affected products in the official Google Android Market at the moment.
In a time when the security of Android is putting people (mostly business users) off it, this is not how Google want to end the year. But saying that, the official market is currently unaffected and it is just third party app markets which are currently dangerous to users and regardless of what O.S you run, we all know that you use third party apps at your own risk.
