Windows Phone 7 platform is now gaining acceptance with the App developer community. The app market recently scored its5,000th app. It took Microsoft 12 days to increase the app tally from 4,000 to 5,000. This feat is even more impressive when you consider that the company's jump from 3,000 to 4,000 apps took 20 days. Going by this speed, WP7 Marketplace is likely to overtake Palm's webOS App offerings by next month. Windows Phone 7 currently has more than 18,000 app developers registered with it.
Despite all the impressive numbers, WP7 is still lagging far behind Android, which now offers more than 200,000 apps. According to a report, Android's apps have been collectively downloaded more than 2.5 billion times. These numbers have not been confirmed by Google, though. It is also rumored that Android is on its way to become the most popular mobile platform in the US and is likely to become most popular OS by 2014. Android already commands 22 percent market share of the global smartphone market.
