Samsung Galaxy S UK Gets Android FroYo Update

Samsung seems to be favoring Europe for releasing Android updates. After much delay, Samsung UK has finally announced that the Android 2.2 aka FroYo update for Samsung Galaxy S is now available on its support site. The update is available for all Samsung Galaxy S devices irrespective of their carrier. Galaxy S in Canada has also received the upgrade. However, Samsung UK is still about 2 month behind other European countries in providing the update. Countries such as Norway and Sweden had received the taste of FroYo a couple of weeks earlier.

The new update will bring pinch to zoom functionality on the home screen to one of the best-selling Samsung smartphone. FroYo also comes equipped with a brand spanking new Gmail app and better Exchange support. Apart from this, there will also be a new default keyboard. Well, UK may have been a little behind other European countries in getting the FroYo upgrade, but you can take solace in the fact that Galaxy S in the US are still pining for their share of FroYo.

  • I’ve had Froyo on my SGS for more than 2 months now, it’s
disappointing that they’ve been so slow to roll it out though.
Gingerbread is partly working on the SGS at the moment so I would
expect that to be available a lot lot earlier than the official
    release.

  • Sorry to tell you guys, but I live in the UK and have had
the upgrade for over a month already. It was automatically updated
through the Samsung Keis application at the beginning of
    December.

  • I personally opted for Darky’s Gingerbread ROM a couple of weeks ago via XDA. It was the simplest thing to update, and breathed new life into my Galaxy S. It’s now super fast, lag-free and has great new apps. Really REALLY pleased.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
