Just found out that your other half’s old flatmate’s girlfriend is giving you a super amazing present this year? With the snow having hit or the temperature just too cold to face moving from the warmth of your laptop, here are some last minute make at home gifts that will make you look creative, thoughtful and prepared for anyone come Saturday!
LED Light Up Bottle
This one would also look good on your table as a centre piece. Venture out and grab some LED Christmas lights (or use your spare set). Make sure they have an attached battery pack. Dig a glass bottle out of the recycling bin (extra points if it’s a fancy shape) and scrub off any labels (tip – soak in water overnight to remove with ease). Stuff bottle with afford mentioned LED light string, taping the battery compartment to the neck. Decorate with glitter, tinsle and anything else you find hanging around the house.

Christmas Survival Kits
Grab a tuppaware box and draw a big red cross on the top. Fill it with a selection of silly goodies – from ibuprofen for hangovers, to a personalised CD of anti-Christmas songs, via pretty much anything else! The site below has lists for a few types, or you can create your own tailored to the student, stress head, or chocoholic in your life.

CD Photo Ornament
A good one for kids to make for Grandma, and a way to recycle the CDs made obsolete by the invention of the iPod. Grab some left over bits of wrapping paraphernalia – ribbons, sequins, patterned paper – and a photo of their grinning self, and glue them all artistically to the shiny side of the CD (or the front if it’s got great art!). Attach a hanging string a viola – a Christmas tree bauble that can then be hung on the wall all year round – you could even make it a 2011 calendar.

Painted Light Bulbs
If you have a 60 watt bulb in your drawers (and what home owner doesn’t?) grab it and some paint – make sure it’s the proper stuff available from craft shops if you want to use them in fittings, or dead bulbs painted with everyday acrylics can make cute ornaments. Paint yourself something simple, like a star or tree, or try something more complicated like a Rudolf head. Make up your own design, or follow one of the many ideas at the site below.

Christmas Poo
And a gag gift to finish off with! Don’t worry – I’m not advocating following Rudolf and scooping up his whoopsies. Instead, the site below provides you with print off labels for jars which you fill with sweets. Skittles become Elf Droppings, marshmallows are Snowman Turds, and chocolate raisins could be Dasher, Dancer and the rest of the crew’s offerings. Great gift for kids and anyone with a skewed sense of humor!
