It probably doesn't come as too much of a surprise given its roaring success in just the six weeks since it launched, but Call of Duty: Black Ops has been announced the UK's Official Christmas number one in video games, still topping every format chart since it's official launch six weeks ago.
With 3 million UK sales since it's launch, and grossing around £100 million from these sales alone, Call of Duty:Black Ops has become the third game in the UK to pass this profit milestone, with Nintendo's Wii Fit and the Black Ops' predecessor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 being the previous two to hit the £100 million mark.
Joining Black Ops on the podium with the number 2 and 3 positions are EA's Fifa 11 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, with the 4th, 5th and 6th postitions going to Just Dance 2, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, and Gran Turismo 5 respectively.
This Christmas period has shown much promise for the video games industry, with Michael Rawlinson - Director General of the UKIE All Format Top 40 - saying: "With over 11m video games sold in the last four weeks in the UK, generating over £290m, they are clearly the gift of choice this Christmas, showing once again that the interactive entertainment industry is the UK's leading creative industry."
The games industry, which has been constantly expanding is truly getting more widely recognized and praised with Rawlinson adding: "The Christmas chart also demonstrates the variety of choice on offer for consumers; there really is something for everyone".
