Social networking giant Facebook was shut down completely for almost half an hour yesterday after a member of staff accidentally leaked various product prototypes and works in progress into the public domain.
The member of staff accidentally leaked redesigned brand pages, a revamped photos sections and page management features. One of the more interesting leaks among them was a feature which was dubbed "memories". "Memories" appeared to index Facebook user histories and puts the online activity into a chronological timeline.
Shortly after the site was revived again, a statement was found on the official Facebook blog which read; "For a brief period of time, some internal prototype were made public to a number of people externally", adding that "As a result, we took the site down for a few minutes. It's back up, and we apologise for the inconvenience."
With over 500 million members worldwide, the 30 minute switch off was noticed by many of its avid users. One particular Tweet which was widely circulated during the down time which made light of the situation proclaimed: "Facebook is down. Half the world population has suddenly become productive. The other half of the population is using Twitter."
Did you notice the Facebook blackout or the leaked prototypes yesterday? Did you manage to do something productive with your free 30 minutes or did you go right to Twitter to report he news?

Face what?
Facebook could be down all day and I wouldn’t notice.
I did notice it. Well I was told and then when I checked it was indeed, down. I use Twitter now. Facebook has had it’s day for me.
