Facebook has added a new automatic face-tagging feature for their photo sharing galleries, to make tagging photos of friends quicker and easier. The new feature automatically gathers up individuals it believes to be the same person in newly uploaded pictures, which can then be effectively mass tagged by the photo uploader in just one step. The feature is an advanced version of the current face-identifier which spotted individuals and suggested who the system believes it to be.

The new feature can be opted out of through your privacy settings if you want to avoid potential mass taggings (this doesn't disable regular tagging of you though). The new feature will be available to Facebook users in the US over the next few weeks with other regions currently tagging old-skool.

This new feature by Facebook is totally and completely ridiculous. It is going to make facebook totally unusable due to privacy concerns and the only solution will be to quit facebook. Facebook has so many issues that you cannot use it freely again. I have quit facebook and am hoping MyCube and Diaspora are secure as they can restore privacy to social media

In the name of making Facebook cool the creators have paid no attention to privacy at all and its a shame that people have failed to recognise this.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
