World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is out and the game has sold more than 3.3 million copies within 24 hours of its release, thus making it
the fastest-selling PC game of all times. However, the sales figures have been boosted by the digital sales and that underscores the changing PC games sales scenario. Digital pre-sales offer was lapped up the eager fans who wanted to make sure that they get their copy at the launch date.
Ironically, Cataclysm took the 'fastest selling game' title from the other expansion pack of World of Warcraft. The previous record for the fastest sold game was held by Wrath of the Lich King which had sold 2.8 million copies in 24 hours. World of Warcraft currently has over 12 million subscribers.
Blizzard CEO has branded Cataclysm as its "best expansion yet" and is expecting to bring back former players of the game back to the fold. Seems like the gamble has paid off and the game is off to the best start it could have asked for!
