At the moment, HTC is one of the top Smartphone manufacturers around, and with big names like Apple and Samsung both making a success of their tablet devices - the ipad and Samsung Galaxy Tab respectively - you would wonder whether HTC would plan to make a move into the ever-expanding market. Well, HTC VP Jack Tong has spoken out about the future of the company and it’s plans for Smartphones and tablets.
According to Tong, HTC has been paying close attention to the tablet market, and said that they are considering getting involved themselves. Tong also mentioned that they have noticed tablets (specifically the iPad) are affecting PC’s mroe than smartphones, this possibly being the reason the phone manufacturers aren’t in any hurry for a tablet release.
In regards to their smartphones, Tong said that HTC will be focusing almost purely on Android devices until Microsoft start dishing out localised versions of Windows Phone 7 in 2011, when they will likely take a more balanced approach to handling the competing operating systems. Tong also mentioned the company’s shortage of high-end smartphones, with supplies improving this month. HTC are expecting to ship 9 million devices in Q4, pulling in a revenue of $3.29 billion.
