Broadband analyst Point Topic has released a report which states that Brits are getting a rough deal from their broadband serviceproviders. Although, the report has stated that the UK "has one of the most competitive broadband markets in the world". The UK has been placed 24th globally, lagging behind countries such Russia and Germany.
The report has bestowed top spot to Hong Kong for providing the best bang for the buck. You have to pay only $0.028 per Mbits/sec over the time span of a year for 1GBPS broadband. Peru has received the last spot where average connection costs $209 Mbits/sec.
UK's low ranking is mainly due to the absence of high-speed fiber connections. According to the report, nine out of the ten best value provider use either pure fibre or hybrid connection. However, the report has not received much support from BT, which claimed that the study does not provide complete picture. BT also favored Broadband Performance Index as proposed by the European Commission. BPI considers various factors such as broadband speed, availability of advanced services and prices. UK has done well in the European Commission Study.
