Google has released its latest version of Google Earth. The new version is compatible with Windows, Linux, and OS X. In this update, Google has completely integrated its Street View experience into Earth. It has also extended 3D support to trees. Buildings are already in the 3D. The little pegman is now placed with the navigation controls.

The addition of 3D trees serves many purposes. It has added extra pizzazz to the otherwise staid view. It is also helpful if you are using walking navigations. Now, you can steer clear of the trees and remain on the direct path.

The other improvement is with regard to the historical imagery. Google has greatly improved this function of Google Earth. Now you can have an Earth view of olden times or not so olden times. Just go ahead and compare Haiti pre and post earthquake. Although this feature has been available since the last update, but the recent update has greatly enhanced its utility. In the latest version, you can see the date of the oldest images right in the status bar. Overall, Google 6 looks sleeker and cleaner. Just go and give it a test ride.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
