Sony Ericsson start to roll out Android 2.1 for X8

Sony Ericsson have started to roll out an Android 2.1 update for their X8 handset. Originally released running on 1.6, customers will be pleased to leave the old OS behind and welcome Eclair. But before they get too happy, the update is going to be released 'in stages' rather than all of the smartphones at the same time.

These 'stages' will be based on serial numbers. So if you have an X8 then visit the Sony Ericsson product blog to get a list of those numbers that are already getting the update. If your phone isn’t listed then you’ll need to wait a little longer which is bound to be a little frustrating. Why can't they make updates simple.

In fact why are SE wasting time with 2.1? if it's taken this long to get them here from 1.6 then by the time X8s are on Froyo, it's going to be all about Gingerbread.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
