Sony, with its revamped e-reader, is looking to grab a major share of e-reader market in Japan. Way back in May, we had heard the
rumors that Sony is planning to launch its e-reader in the Japanese market by the end of this year and seems like the company is on its way to meet the deadline. Sony is also aspiring to set up an e-book distribution platform in collaboration with local Japanese telecom operator KDDI.
According to reports, Sony will launch 5-inch and 6-inch version of its e-reader and the launch date has been set at December 10th. Sony's e-bookstore will boast of 20,000 titles and is expected to be operational good time before the year end. The company is quite confident and is expecting to "sell 300,000 Readers in the first year and win half the domestic market by 2012.” We would say "Amen" to that. The company has set the prices at $237 and $297 for 5-incher and 6-incher respectively.
