If you want to know how the masses think, if you want to, excuse the awful cliché know 'what's hot and what's not' then there's one simple method, it's not a psychology degree, it's a search engine.
And the search engine in question says that people are losing interest in the iPhone. A survey by comparison website Good Mobile Phones shows that HTC is the most searched mobile term (within their website.)
Mobile Phones carried out research over a period of a month, monitoring which phones were searched for on its site by UK consumers; Wildfire, Desire and Desire HD all came out on top with the Samsung Galaxy S and Nokia N8 closely behind and the iPhone 4 only managing to secure sixth place.
The top ten was rounded off by the Blackberry Curve 8520, Samsung Tocco Lite, BlackBerry Torch and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini.
Mark Owen, the Managing Director of Good Mobile Phones said: "For some time now, HTC has been knocking at the door and trying to overtake the Apple iPhone's dominance of the handset market. Our results clearly show that they have taken the lead in terms of consumer demand for their smartphones."

I think you will find, people are not losing interest in the iPhone, but already have one. Therefore they have no reason to search for it on the internet.
With an iPhone, you KNOW your getting the greatest phone to ever exist, but people who cant afford iPhones are going straight for the HTC, and with HTC having various models, people need to search HTC to get info on the various models/compare/purchase online.
People are not likely to search and buy in one go, so may search for it a few times.
