Apple Drops Plans for Integrated SIM iPhone

So, here is a rumor refuting yet another rumor. Some time back, it was reported that Apple is working on developing an integratedSIM card for iPhone. However, now an unconfirmed report from The Telegraph is pointing in the other direction. According to the report, Cupertino company has abandoned its plans. The report has referred to a senior source working with a mobile operator and has claimed that the decision has been taken in the wake of opposition from European carriers.

Embedded SIM would have allowed Apple to cut its dependency on mobile operators. This new development would have also allowed the users to change their carrier without changing their handset or SIM. However, reports about the development met with sharp reaction from European mobile operators, which threatened to withdraw their subsidy support to iPhone. It's estimated that Apple may lose 12% of iPhone sales due to subsidy withdrawal. Looks like, the company took the threat seriously.

So, what do you say? Personally, we would have loved to see an iPhone free from the shackles of service providers. However, it is not every day that we get to hear about Apple backing down.
