CityVille.

Remember you heard it here, because in a few months or even weeks it is going to be everywhere. You will, be getting pestered for bricks and mortar. FarmVille is so yesterday. Why build a farm when you can build a whole city, Sim City style.

The latest Facebook game unveiled by Zynga lets players become a mayor of a city and build it from the ground up. Beta versions of the game will be rolled out in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish in the next few weeks.

"Instead of harvesting crops you're harvesting your neighborhood; instead of clearing your friend's frontier you're working on a friend's franchise," said Sean Kelly, the game's general manager. Ah, virtual industrialisation.

It's fairly obvious what the game will entail but if you want a blurb: you must build roads, houses, police stations, schools, businesses, and even farms (there you go FarmVille fanatics) to grow your city and provide for your residents. If you fail to provide for them, your city will suffer in some way.

The hook is that CityVille players can create their own restaurant franchises and expand them to cities their friends have built.

Zynga's games have proved immensely popular thus far. 225 million people are said to play its games each month on sites like Facebook and Yahoo.

I don't think this will be any exception to the rule.

CityVille, you'll be sick to death of hearing it this time next year.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
