Balsillie has a pop at Apple’s web capabilites

Jim and Steve are at it again.

The chief executive of RIM has launched an attack on Apple at the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco.

Balsillie told delegates at the event that Research in Motion's forthcoming tablet computer, the PlayBook, will be "three or four times" faster at browsing the web than Apple's iPad.

He also criticised Apple's ecosystem of applications claiming that users "don't need an app for the web." Though he acknowledged that there was a role for native apps he said that the web browser remained the best way of getting information on mobile devices.

“We believe that you can bring the mobile to the web-You don't need to go through some kind of software development kit. That's the core part of our message. You can use your existing development environment."

Does he have a point? I think he sort of does. Fast Web Browsing is key to the success of portable devices, but then wouldn't BlackBerry's be a whole lot better if they had a few more apps? they would at least be more fun.

Let's wait and see what Steve has to say about this.

In the meantime, do you think we could get them in a charity boxing match for children in need or something?
That would be awesome, someone please start a Facebook group.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
