There has been doubt previously of the legitimacy of the Google Nexus successor, since rumours are after all simply that. However, it’s pretty hard to ignore it when Google’s main man Eric Schmidt is showing off the device itself, known as the Google Nexus S. Last night, at the Web 2.0 summit across the pond, Schmidt showed off the Android 2.3 Gingerbread device and gave a lucky few an opportunity for a closer look at the device.
According to Engadget, physical characteristics of the Nexus S include a very slim look, (near that of an iPhone 4, if not slimmer) with a conclave shape showing because of a slightly slimmer middle. The device is sporting an AMOLED screen and has some discreet volume buttons on the side and a plastic back. The device appeared to be a prototype if anything, and other more specific details seem to be kept quiet at the moment. Although Schmidt kept the manufacturer brand covered up on the device, there is a shared secret that it has been made by Samsung.
In regards to the newest Android update – Version 2.3 Gingerbread – Schmidt wasn’t giving much away, saying only that it will be coming “in a matter of weeks”. The same does not necessarily apply to the Nexus S, so when we will see the official announcement on the device is still open to speculation. The only feature he seemed to show off on the new Gingerbread OS unfortunately was it’s fancy shut down animation which strongly resembled an old CRT TV switch off (if you don’t know what I mean, someone caught the animation on camera).
