According to a new survey, both Twitter and Facebook have got 'stellar' F grade for ensuring the privacy of their users' data. The survey, conducted by Digital Society, studied 11 websites including Yahoo and Microsoft Hotmail. The survey used various criterions such as SSL authentication and Sidejack & Hijack risk potential.
Only two websites managed to grab 'A' grade and these websites are gmail and WordPress with SSL. Both these sites offer SSL authentication feature as well as SSL browsing and have nil risk of partial/full sidejack and full hijack. However, WordPress with no SSL joined the ranks of twitter and Facebook and got an 'F'
Under partial sidejacking, an attacker may obtain users authentication cookies and thus may partially access your account, whereas under full sidejacking, the hacker does not obtain your username or password but still can have full command of your account. However, full hijacking gets you totally screwed as the hacker get the full control to every aspect of your account and may change your account details. Since, the survey has proved that major websites are not doing much for your data encryption, it is up to you to ensure that you have secured your connection. Happy and Safe Browsing!
