HTC seems to be wanting to play a bigger part in the smartphone game, with plans of an expansion for their software. According to the Financial Times, two new sources have appeared which have said that HTC are currently hiring new staff in preparation for their own app store. FT said that HTC have said they are “growing very fast” and “we are always exploring new areas we can add value to our customers but we can’t comment on our future plans”.

HTC have already started to show a lean towards more software for their devices, with the HTCsense.com cloud service which launched with the Android using Desire HD and Desire Z. This hub can already be used as an app discovery assistant, and it seems they will be building on this for their own store.

The app store won’t necessarily be catering only for Android however, as it currently has ten apps for their Windows Phone 7 platform. This could mean we could be seeing separate sections for both Operating Systems currently being used by the company. The app store markets are expanding and it wouldn’t be a surprise to be seeing more and more companies pump out their unique stores in the near future. Hopefully HTC will give Android and WP7 a run for their money, even if they are partnered with them.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
