Lately, BlackBerry has been losing its clout in the corporate market. Now, Dell is the latest company to ditch BlackBerry andapparently, it has done so to promote its own smartphone Dell Venue Pro. So, now 25,000 of Dell employees will get Venue Pro to replace their BBs. Venue Pro runs recently released Windows Phone 7 OS. However, Dell is not looking to restrict itself to WP7, the company is planning to offer Android phones as well.
After providing its own employees with Dell phones, the company will start aggressive marketing of the phone services in the business user segment. Dell is also rumored to be in talks with T-Mobile for collaboration. Although, Dell claims to have saved over 25 percent in its communication costs by getting rid of servers, it is not likely that other companies making the switch will get to see the savings of the same momentum.
Dell has been pretty much an underdog in smartphone market and the business segment itself is crowded as more and more people are getting inclined towards using one single phone for both personal and professional use. It would be interesting to see how Research in Motion reacts to its latest competitor.
