Xbox 360 Kinect to Recieve Midnight Releases from GAME and Asda

Microsoft’s newest piece of Xbox 360 hardware – the Kinect – has been released in the US today, while stores in the UK have been preparing for the November 10th launch, making sure we can get the new device the moment it comes out. Various launch events are being held in a number of retailers including midnight openings for the device and in store demos, according to MCV.

The UK’s biggest gaming store, GAME has been running Kinect evenings all over the UK in preparation for the big launch on the 10th, with their trading director Adam Davis telling MCV, “I think we are one of the only retailers to really evangelise Kinect, and we’ve done it with the constraints we have in terms of square footage”.

However, GAME aren’t the only ones who are making the Kinect launch a big deal, with supermarket chain Asda also preparing for the release. The Kinect is also receiving a midnight release from them, across 200 stores scattered around the UK. Alistar Islip of Asda said that they have been treating the piece of hardware like they would a new console, and some have re-arranged their entertainment departments with software charts and training videos in preparation for the release frenzy.

The Kinect has also sold-out in various pre-order stores, so expect the more populated areas of the UK to be very busy on the night. Is the hype from the stores going to rub off on the Xbox community? I guess we’ll see.
