Mobile Nanny For Android Gives Big-Brother-Like Powers to Parents

Android seem to have taken a leaf out of Apple's 'Campaign for keeping Teens from doing what they want with their Phones' and have released a new app called Mobile Nanny. If you have a parent or someone else paying for your Android phone, then you may want to keep this app in mind, because they do get the Mobile Nanny app, you can kiss any slightly naughty freedoms goodbye.

The app has a number of features to keep a child on a leash, including: the ability to have entire text messages the phone sends or receives to an online account which can be filtered for texts that contain specific keywords (you know, naughty things). If your bill-payer is alerted by one of these, expect to be in trouble before you can say 'I didn't send that'.

Not only does the app stop those naughty sexting kids, but also has a tracking feature to make sure you're where you should be. The app uses GPS tracking, and can tell the concerned parents where the phone is every 15 minutes (or longer time periods if necessary).

The app also monitors calls and website visits by the user, so don't be thinking you can find a loophole that easily. The app works as a subscription, costing $50 per year and includes free updates for users. This rather extreme method of parenting would be a sure fire way to get on plenty of teens' nerves but then maybe it could be a useful tool for getting your kids to get a job and pay for their own phone (an alternative many teens would probably prefer).

DISCLAIMER: 'Campaign for keeping Teens from doing what they want with their Phones' is not necessarily real.

  • This is a very reliable and time proven application for the Android and the Blackberry actually. It keeps parents from worrying needlessly and works on the Android very well. They use a Secure server, remote login, all the features that you need, like realtime monitoring.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
