As usual, it seems we will be getting some very fast jailbreak fanatics getting right on the task of annoying Apple with their antics. MuscleNerd has announced on Twitter that he will be able to unlock the upcoming iOS 4.2 release from Apple just two days after its release.
The Ultrasn0w unlock will at first be compatible only with iPhone 3G and 3GS running on iOS 4.1 and 4.2 with the 05.14.02 baseband. If you want to jailbreak your iPhone 3G/3GS however, you must make sure the baseband remains the same when updating to iOS 4.2 otherwise the jailbreak won't work. If this is the case, you may need to use a tool to preserve the old baseband with the iOS 4.2 update.
Unfortunately, it seems jailbreaking the iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2 may take a little longer than the 3 phones because the unlock team will need to test the baseband (which is different to the 3 ones). It is likely that this process will not take too long however, and any future news on the update and jailbreaking will be sure to be reported.
