Every year the clocks go back, but people just can't seem to get to grips with Daylight Saving Time. Imagine trying to explain to your boss it's your iPhones fault you're late. "Yeah, and the dog ate that report you were meant to do bring in too did it?"
Smartphones tend to have a good relationship with time. Firstly the clever little things know the clocks are changing and change them for you, no rummaging around the house in your pyjamas like a zombie manual adjusting all the clocks. Plus you can set multiple alarms. Alarms for different shifts, emergency alarms for when you fall back asleep, that sort of thing.
But this morning it all went wrong. An apparent bug in the iPhone 4's software prevented the handset's alarm function from working correctly.
Although the actual time on the iPhone 4 automatically updated when the clocks went back at the weekend, the alarm function itself, didn't and thus a flock of workers woke up an hour later than intended.
A similar bug affected iPhone 4 users in Australia and New Zealand when clocks switched from Daylight Saving Time last month.
And the glitch could strike again next week when the United States adjusts its clocks to mark the start of winter.
Apple did pledge to roll out a software update when the bug struck in Australasia in October but that's about all we’ve heard from the evasive company, they’re yet to comment on todays bug.
If you want a good laugh head to Twitter to see such comments as: "iPhone alarm bug made me wake up late", "Alarm issues this morning with an iOS 4.1 iPhone," . "It went off exactly an hour late. Glad it may not have been just me."
And if you were affected by the bug, here's what to do.
Delete all alarms.
Create new alarm alerts.
It's that simple, but be warned, editing existing alarms will not resolve the problem you must wipe the alarms and start again.
