The long time coming controller-free gaming peripheral for the Xbox 360 – the Microsoft Kinect – is just around the corner, and with it we get a bunch of adverts showing us why we want it. With a November 10th launch however, and from seeing the adverts, not much about it is really sold, and if you’re the average gamer and got through all 4 adverts without cringing, you must have a very good poker face.
With Microsoft spending as much as $500 million on their marketing campaign on this new and reasonably expensive bit of hardware (this number is also combined with the Windows Phone 7 advertising), you may expect a little more, but unfortunately all we get is a bit of cheesy happy families jumping around with some ‘retro’ stop motion with almost no look at the Kinect itself. It’s pretty obvious what kind of market Microsoft is aiming for with the Kinect, and it’s a little disappointing.
The games advertised in the campaign have been Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures, both showing very little gameplay and instead just selling the ‘fun’ of flailing around in front of the Kinect, making the new piece of hardware look more like a gimmick than a revolutionary bit of hardware.
Regardless, the Kinect is coming to you November 10th at £129.99, so make sure you get a good look at what you’re getting yourself into before buying.

I can see where this would be a problem for Brits being that they are usually so superficial and uptight. Which makes them lonely and bitter as well as perpetually bored. Loosen your pants a bit there guv. Remember, games are supposed to be fun and social. Besides, don’t you think kids should get a nice HD motion-gaming system for Christmas? I have played PC games with a lot of British dudes and it’s really funny how seriously they take their video games. There is always way more whining, or “whinging” as they call it than I can take for any length of time. LOL Now don’t get the ‘ump wiv me over my comments Geeze. LOL
There’s a better product under development for PCs, called O3Di
Buy everything if you can afford it.
