Inspired by the success of its mobile app store, Apple has now announced that it is planning to open a new app store targeted towards desktops. The new store will provide an app catalog, along with automatic updates. It will also let users install their purchased software on any Mac they have.
All sounds convenient for the users, but how about the developers? The desktop app store will use the same revenue model as employed for mobile App store, where developers get to keep 70 percent of the revenue while Apple laps up the remaining 30 percent. The model works well since app store provides developers with much needed exposure, which most of the obscure apps will not get, otherwise. But we do not see any such value addition for the desktop app developers. Desktop users are more or less accustomed to launch search for the required programs/apps and tend to visit individual websites or retailers for acquiring software. But then Apple had always been a game changer. Who would have thought that people would flock to shell hundreds of dollars on a handheld which cannot multitask or run Flash. So, let's just wait, as the store will be open in less than 90 days from today.

Does the greed of Apple knows no limits, is the future OSX for Desktop and Laptops to become walled (like iPhone, iPad)? all users having to go through iTunes to install any software onto Apple’s computers in return giving Apple 30% from all software designed to run mac Desktop and Laptop machines.
