Where to custom build an Android Smartphone?

This is probably the coolest website ever. I know you've probably heard that a lot, people say it about every site they see, but this time (especially for Android fans) I may be right.

Software wise phones these days are pretty customisable. Using Android as our example, obviously you can change the wallpaper, ringtone etc, you pick what apps you want on it and what apps you don't. You can even build your own at Google labs. You can make your phone yours. But not with hardware; short of a crappy case, a Micro SD card, or some radical modification at a dodgy market stall, the hardware you get is the hardware you're stuck with.

So you get the best phone for your needs right? a HTC Desire, a Samsung Galaxy S. But if that doesn't do it for you? Synapse of Germany has a website on which you can custom build your own Android handset.

Each phone created will run Android 2.2 but as for the hardware, it's up to you what you want to include inside.Options include the camera which can be selected up to a 12 megapixel model, you get to chose various other options and build the phone of your dreams.

But, unfortunately, due to the demand, the website is down at the moment and when viewing the URL here, it takes you to a temporary site that says the phone, if ordered now, will arrive in the first quarter of 2011. Oh and Price wise, the devices start at €434.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
