We might have started dreaming about Android IceCream, but in reality, even Android 3.0 aka Gingerbread is a distant dream. But, we do have some new info about Gingerbread. Gingerbread is likely to come with a refurbished User Interface and we expect it to be more fine-tuned now. Expect to see some new icons, scroll effects and updated notification bar and while, rumors are pointing to some more significant changes, but we are going to keep our expectations low.
Gingerbread is also expected bring video chat function to Android devices and the function will be added as native element of the operating system. It would be interesting to see how it stacks up against Apple FaceTime. Other major addition will be in the form of addition of VoIP calling facility to the Google Voice Service. The implementation of this update is, however will depend on the wish and whim of mobile carriers. Since Gingerbread is more likely to be geared towards tablets, this feature may become a major point in favor of Android tablets.
It is great to see these updates especially when most of the devices are still struggling to get the FroYo update.
