A couple of weeks ago we told you rumours of a possible Skype and Facebook Integration, and it seems that it has come into fruition with the arrival of Skype 5 which has new features which link together with the huge social networking site.
The Facebook integration in the latest Skype version allows users to import the phone numbers of their friends using the Facebook Phonebook, and can then easily call them on the service. The Facebook new feeds have also been imported into the latest Skype allowing you to keep an eye on your friends while using Skype without the pain of switching windows to your Facebook page. As well as this, you can also request numbers from your Facebook friends using Skype 5, as well as match your Mood Message in Skype to your Facebook status.
Non-Facebook related features which have arrived on Skype 5 include the option to have your Skype profile picture made public so you can be found by friends easier in a search. The mood messages of friends are also shown before a call is made so you can read their mood and decide whether it's the right time to be getting hold of them or not.
It's likely if you've been checking out the latest Skype news from us you will know about their biggest new feature which allows 10-way video calling, which has a dynamic mode which makes speakers' pictures appear bigger when they talk. For the 10-way calling feature, Skype recommends certain specs to help it run smoother including a 1024 kbits per second internet connection and a dual-core system (or other high performance CPU's). The video on 10-way chat runs at 640×480 VGA, so don't be expecting HD video through this service. If you're trying out the newest Skype let us know your opinions on the new features.
