Great Manchester Police Use Twitter to Make a Point About Police Workloads

Great Manchester Police have decided to give a demonstration of the amount of work the force has to do in just one day by tweeting every incident they get using the social posting website Twitter.

The purpose behind this is thought to be related to budget cuts to the forces that are just around the corner to show how the police do more than just "catch criminals". Funnily enough, the police force have had to create multiple accounts to avoid Twitters 'laws' of spam posting because of the ridiculous amount of posts the GMP have to put up to prove their point of the amount of work and cases to be dealt with (in the thousands).

If you're interested in what the GMP are up to make sure to check out their Twitter page (links to their alternatives are very easy to find from there) and check out what the police are dealing with from knife threats to children messing around in police boxes. Whether their point in using Twitter will help the public and government change their opinions on police work will only be told in time but this is only looking to be like a publicity stunt at the moment and a waste of police time.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
