Apple is set to host a “Back to the Mac” event on October 20th were it will offer a glimpse of “the next major version of Mac OS X” and will probably refresh its Mac line.
The media invites have been dished out and now speculation is rampant but I doubt we're going to see any big surprises at the event. The only questions is will we see a Mac refresh or not?
The company has largely focused on its mobile products, such as the iPhone and iPad, for much of 2010 and will turn the focus back onto their computer systems at the Cupertino HQ event.
Savvy bloggers have noted that the invite may give away a few cheeky details about Apples latest Mac products. On the invites are a partial image of a lion's face, peeking through an apple-shaped cutout in a brushed-aluminium pane; so does that mean Apple's chosen "Lion" as the next code-name for Mac OS X 10.7? After Leopard and Snow Leopard it would come as no big surprise.
According to Net Applications, the various editions of Windows hold 91.08 percent of the operating-system market, followed by Mac with 5.03 percent. That represents a slight decline from November 2009, when Mac held 5.12 percent of the market.
Just because Apple are having great success with their portable products doesn't mean they're going to stop the fight to grab some more of the OS market share from Windows. The announcement of 'Back to Mac' shows Steve and co aren't sleeping on the job and are ready to have a pop at Windows 7.
