Sony Issues Firmware Update for PS3: Targets Hacking

Sony has come with some new ways to rein in piracy on its PlayStation3. Electronic Arts' new game Medal of Honor would requirelatest firmware, which have been updated to block hacking. Sony has earlier used this tactic for thwarting hacking attempts on PSP. PS3 had lately been a favorite of hackers community and the gaming device has been jail broken using not only Palm Pre or Nokia N900, but also but also with a IT-84 Plus calculator.

So, if you are drooling over Medal of Honor, you will need to update your PS3 fimware to 3.50 version, which will effectively put an end to your hacking exploits. If the user refuses to update, then your device will not be able to run the game. And it is speculated that from now onwards, all the games will come with firmware update stipulation. All new games will also come encrypted with a new key, which means all the existing hacks will be pretty much useless on these games.

Hacked or secure, but we are looking forward to the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5 for the holiday season.
