Advent Vega Tablet: Specs, Price, and Release Date All Revealed

It's rare to hear about great tablet devices which aren't coming from the big players such as Apple and Samsung but show promising competition and a low price, and it's a delight to see the Advent Vega which has had its specs, release date and price all revealed.

The tablet has reduced its screen size (from its predecessor) from 15-inches to 10, and still uses the 1GHz NVIDIA Tergra chipset which gives the screen 1080p HD capabilities on an unfortunate screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. However, this can be made up for with an HDMI output which can mean great picture on a HDTV or Monitor. The tablet has a built in 1.3-megapixel webcam, 802.11bg WiFi, a 3GB SIM slot, 512MB of ROM and RAM, and a microSD slot with a 4GB one coming with the tablet.

Other notable features include the use of Android 2.2 Froyo (whether or not it will have Market support it unknown at the moment) and a battery life which can last through 6.5 hours of 1080p video, nothing to be snuffed.

Of course, these aren't exactly the best specs in the world but it's a good competitor and don't look at it as you would a Next tablet or anything. Having said that, one good quality it does share with the Next tab is the price. The tablet is hitting shelves in Dixons on October 18th for an impressive £249. So if you're not looking for the highest spec tablet, but still a quality device with a good price then make sure to consider the Advent Vega.

  • This is not bad but for a low-cost Android tablet, though I assure you it will NOT have the Android Market App (at least not a licensed version as it fails the CDD hardware requirements on multiple fronts).

I’d like a little more information on the specs, such as whether the screen is resistive or capacitive, what SIM stacks will be supported by the SIM card slot (CDMA? GSM? what frequencies?)

We have a similar device priced at US$199 and while we don’t have SIM support, we do have a USB2.0 port that allows for USB modems or a host of other accessories to be added to our Android tablets.

  • It’s well into November now and Dixons are still displaying a coming soon advert for this. The spec looks really good for the price and I’m seriously considering getting one of these, it’s just annoying not knowing when they’ll actually be available.

  • I have just spoken to Dixons Group and there has been a delay in getting the stock. They are now talking about the end of November/early December. As it ticks all the right boxes for waht i need I just hope it arrives in time for Santa to deliver

I just returned from a Curry’s store – the salesman there told me the Advent Vega will be priced at £750.
