Now that the Windows Phone 7 launch event is over, it is time to dissect the offering and the news has already started trickling in.Although it was expected that the first batch of handsets with WP7 won't have memory expansion facility, Samsung Focus came as a pleasant surprise. The handset features a memory card slot. However, the glee was short-lived.
Microsoft went on to issue a statement saying that Windows Phone 7 use a special SD card which works differently than conventional SD cards. So, WP7 phones recognize internal memory and SD Card as one storage system. Hence, if you were thinking about augmenting your storage capacity by swapping the card, then be warned that it likely will hamper the functioning of your phone.
Microsoft has also said that any such process will erase the existing data. Anyhow, most of the handsets on Windows Phone 7 are coming with internal storage ranging from 8 GB to 16GB, but Microsoft is touting its new platform as being cloud-centric and hence eliminates the requirement of bigger on-board storage capacity. But still an option to expand the memory would have been a nice one.
Anyhow, there are rumors circulating that there actually is a way to expand the on-board memory but the procedure requires some hardcore resets. So , what do you say, are you ready to take the risk?
